This is a film about endangered species of New South Wales, Australia (NSW)
and it stars four of these enadangered species both in a costume drama and
the creatures themselves via spectacular natural history footage. The movie
switches between the drama, where the 4 creatures seek to understand why
they are in danger of extinction, and the natural history of the creatures
which is narrated by Sir David Attenborough.
In the drama, Quoll and Owl costumes capture a young human named Eron, tie him up and gag
him with vines and bark, and hold a trial where he is accused of all the sins of humanity
that have lef to the threat of extinction for these creatures. Australian actor Jack
Thompson is the voice for both Quoll and Owl.
Glider appears and criticises them for their foolishness and then goes back to sleep. Koala appears and she also has a long list of complaints against humanity. Olivia Newton-John is the voice for Koala. But, Koala tells them, they have captured the wrong human, Eron is a friend. Koala knows humans, has worked with them, so she leads the other two on the beginning of a quest to understand why they are all on the endangered species list and what they must do to change this. Gliders tree is cut down and he runs after them to join them.
As each of these animals is introduced, the movie cuts to natural history footage of
each creature in turn shot by some of Australia’s top wildlife movie-makers. This
natural history footage is narrated by David Attenburgh. The drama is also punctuated by
further narration about the situation of NSW endangered
species by famous British Botany Professor David Bellamy
First our 4 heroes t visit an aboriginal elder. She is unable to help them for, as she says "we’re endangered too" but she urges them not to lose hope as the indigenous people are educating the youth and sends them to seek help from a young funk band, The Red Eyed Frogs. Eron is the lead-singer of this band. The 4 creatures burst in on the musicians as they are playing to a crowd of young people dancing and explain that their forest is being logged.
The Red Eyed Frogs, the 4 animals and the young people blockade the logging operation but eventually a logger explains that they don’t make the decisions and advises them to speak instead to the authorities.
Next they invade the offices of the NSW forestry bureaucracy and chant and play music as Glider tries unsuccessfully to persuade the personell to intervene to save their forests and police try unsuccessfully to persuade the protestors to leave. Finally a forester explains that they don’t make the decisions and sends them to Parliament House.
At Parliament they are befriended by Ian Cohen, a Senator for The Green Party who leads them around parliament and then makes a speech on their behalf. They wander around Sydney meeting people and pleading their case. Koala is killed by a car and Quoll makes a moving plea for people to help them. Summing up speeches by David Suzuki and David Attenburgh are followed by a "What You Can Do" section and credits.
