WORLDWIDE FOREST/BIODIVERSITY CAMPAIGN NEWS AND PAPUA NEW GUINEA RAINFOREST CAMPAIGN NEWS
FUNDING APPEAL
4/12/99The time has come for me to ask list subscribers for a contribution to allow this Internet based forest conservation effort to continue and grow. I want to keep this simple, brief and to the point. The time and effort required to individually maintain and continue to improve the forest email lists and the Gaia Forest Conservation Archives at http://forests.org/ has proven untenable. To continue, this forest campaign requires a small amount of financing to hire some student hourly help, and the purchase of a new internet server.
Please, if you are an individual subscriber, consider making a contribution that you can afford. If you are affiliated with an organization, a donation would be appreciated, as well as any information regarding potential grant programs. At any rate, this service will always remain FREE, so if you can not contribute now, do not worry--the information will keep flowing.
On the basis of earlier emails that this service may be discontinued, I have received pledges for a $2,000 grant towards a new server, and $800 from the Rainforest Information Center, whose founder and renowned forest conservationist John Seed has the following to say:
"I have been working for the preservation of rainforests and other natural areas for more than 20 years, most recently doing a lot of my networking via the internet. Gaia Forest Conservation Archives is without doubt the most useful source of forest-related information on the internet and so the Rainforest Information Centre is delighted to make a donation at this time to upgrade the site - for the Earth - John Seed"
In order to provide tax-deductibility, I am working with Rainforest Information Centre. Donations of more than $20 should be made out to Rainforest Information Centre and sent with a note stating that they are for Ecological Enterprises' Gaia Forest Archives web site and email lists to:
EarthWays Foundation, 20110 Rockport Way Malibu, CA 90265 USA
It would be good if people could also send me an email letting me know of the contribution. If you wish to make a smaller contribution, or don't require tax deductibility and want to send funds directly to me, please contact me for details.
Thank you very much for your time. I make this appeal with some apprehension. I have been doing this forest networking task for over 9 years and have explicitly always resisted asking for funds. These appeals will remain brief and infrequent, no more than 2 a year. And the business of providing forest information for forest campaigning will remain the emphasis and continue apace.
Sincerely,
Glen Barry
