ACT NOW! What can you do to raise awareness at your school about the true consequences of buying a class ring? Street theatre?
Display booth next to Jostens? Here's what one of the students at University of Delaware did: In October, Students For the Environment at University of Delaware, set up a Goldbusters table right next to the Jostens booth in the student center on Family Day. Because I didn't have official pamphlets yet, I created my own, entitled "Why is gold not an intelligent way 'to capture the essence of your achievements?'" (using one of Jostens' slogans). We had articles on the ecological and social consequences of gold and silver mining for people to take. There was not too much traffic on this day, but a few people did stop by to take info or chat. One father seemed particularly happy to receive the info we supplied, I think, because he really did not want to pay $300 for the class ring his daughter was requesting, and now he had a good excuse! We have only had one Goldbusters booth so far next to the class ring sales booths, but we plan to do more with the Goldbusters campaign later.
